BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — This February, 7 News is highlighting black-owned businesses across Western New York to celebrate Black History Month! Our second stop — A Taste of Soul in Buffalo.
The soul food restaurant, founded by its owner Khalilah Reese, also known as Ms. Country, is celebrating its second year open on Elmwood Avenue. Originally from South Carolina, Ms. Country is excited to be able to bring home to Western New York While the shop is celebrating its second year as a brick and mortar, the business originally started as a hobby for Ms. Country out of the family’s home over 15 years ago.
“This spot means a lot to me. This is our first time being an above ground brick and mortar. We’re Black. We’re a family. We’re just so humbled,” Reese said. “Whatever you do, just do it from your soul. Even if you’re not cooking, just be happy with what you’re doing out here”.
One of the most popular servings at A Taste of Soul is their 6-piece fried chicken family meal which includes 6-pc chicken, 2 large sides, 4 pieces of cornbread/roll, 4 pieces of pound cake and a 32 oz serving of soul punch. A Taste of Soul also delivers to college campuses in the area for free if they pay with cash app.
