‘Do Anything You Wanna Do’: Northland Woman Opens Up Black-Owned Business In Duluth

DULUTH, MN. (Northern News Now) – It’s Black History Month and a Northland woman is sharing her journey of now doing what she loves.

Nothing is more important to Jasmine Flowers than her daughter, Jyiah.

“My business is under my daughter’s name,” said Flowers. “My daughter’s middle name. Her name is Jyiah Blessing Jennings.”

This is why she chose to name her business Blessing Royal Collection after their strong mother-daughter relationship.

Flowers used to live in Chisholm with her parents, where she began selling lashes and extensions from their home.

She eventually moved to Duluth with her son, Jakobi, and daughter, Jyiah, and had a dream of owning her own business.

Flowers started her business in 2018 and eventually earned her LLC in 2020. She says she wants to offer a variety of fashion to Northlanders.

“I felt like Blessing Royal Collection was pretty much that fashion that they needed,” said Flowers. “That slay.”

Blessing Royal Collection sells everything from clothing to lashes, and even offers hair braiding classes for young black children.

She says allowing young black children to learn how to do their own hair gives them confidence.

Blessing Royal Collection is one of the many black-owned businesses that will be showcased at the Northland BIPOC Business Showcase on Feb. 10.

Kia Ronning, founder of the Northland BIPOC Business Showcase says this event highlights the hard work of many.

“But we are building black history right now and so it’s important to highlight, you know, the joy and the accomplishments as well this month,” said Ronning. “This showcase really does that.”

Although Flowers is still in the process of moving into her new building, she wants to share a few words of wisdom with those who also share a dream of owning a business.

“Do anything you wanna do,” said Flowers. “Do anything that you put your mind to, cause best believe you can do it.”
