Yakima County — Hundreds of families gathered for the annual Thanksgiving luncheon hosted by the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Washington.
For over 30 years, the OIC of Washington has provided a hot thanksgiving meal for families all across the valley.
The leaders we spoke to say around the holidays it’s even more important for people to feel like they’re a part of something.
“Sometimes people don’t have a family,” Said Anakaren Garcia, Grant Writer at the OIC of Washington, “They don’t have a place to gather so it really is a chance to feel a part of something and to be a part of a family… and that’s what OIC is… OIC is such a family and this is a time to do it. It’s heartwarming… it really is.”
OIC of Washington hosted about 300 people this year.
The traditional thanksgiving food was catered by Catherine’s kitchen, a small black-owned business in Yakima.
